The second character is the Sun Wukong (Monkey King). He is the first disciple of Tang Sanzang, Senior fellow for Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing. Sun Wukong's childlike playfulness is a huge contrast to his cunning mind. This, coupled with his great power, makes him a trickster hero. His antics present a lighter side in what proposes to be a long and dangerous trip into the unknown.

Sun Wukong's Primary Weapon "Ruyi Jingu Bang" (如意金箍棒).
Sun Wukong is later set free when Tang Sanzang comes upon him and accepts him as a disciple.
